A few days ago Comes With Music started finally in Germany. To put in a nutshell, Comes With Music is a music-flatrate which allows you to download more than 5 million songs from your mobile and PC within a year. After the year expires you can keep all downloaded songs and listen to them on your phone or on your computer. First partner to provide Comes With Music devices  in Germany is mobilcom-debitel, further operators to follow soon.

One of the devices to ‘comes with music’ is the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic. To let the the customer know that it features Comes With Music the box comes with the stripey and orange Comes With Music branding that provides all necessary key-features about Comes With Music. Opening the box you find the usual content such as the 5800 XpressMusic device, headset and so on.

Other than that you find a small CD with the Music Store software and a brochure in the box. This brochure contains your activation pin as well as the first steps to activate Comes With Music. The activation code can be only used with the device you bought it with. Trying to activate another device doesn’t work so that you cannot sell the activation code but use it for your self only.

Getting Started:

After installing the Music Store on your computer you can follow the Comes With Music links which will lead you to the activation process. Than you can activate a new account with Comes With Music or use an existing account. Just connect your phone with the computer, fill in the fields and you’re done. Now all prices, on the PC an well as on the mobile, disappear and you can download as much music as you like. The Music store is pretty straight forward offering you a search function, the latest charts, genres, special playlist, new songs or suggestions of the editorial staff.

DRM:

Well, you can download as much music as you want but all music tracks, which are encoded in wma at 192kbps, are DRM protected. So, you don’t have any rights to copy the songs or to burn them. However, of course you can listen to them as often as you like and transfer them to your Comes With Music device easyily using the drag and drop function of the Music Store.

Nokia 5800 XpressMusic:

The 5800 Xpress Music is, like the other Comes With Music devices, a perfect music-device. It comes with a 8GB microSDHC card, has a 3.5mm audio jack and extremely loud loudspeakers. More over, it features WiFi, 3G and also HSDPA for fast downloads. Downloading a song  via WiFi takes about 20 sekonds.

Further information and verdict:

Comes With Music really changes your habit of purchase music. Now you’ll probably not only download the music you like but also download songs you’d like to try. Having the chance to download more than 5 millions songs you’ll discover new artists or even new genres. The big mayor labels as well as the Indie-labels guarantee a huge bandwidth of songs, artists and genres. Comes With Music costs about 15€ per month which is quite fair. Comes With Music compatible devices are the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic (510 Euro), Nokia 5630 XpressMusic (379 Euro) Nokia N79 (479 Euro) and the Nokia N95 8GB (589 Euro). In other countries there might be other device available. All in all I really like Comes With Music as it offers unlimited access to millions of songs. No matter where you are, whether at home, in the bus or at a party, you can download songs everywhere. Furthermore, the price is quite fair.
