Review: Nokia Mini-Speakers MD-6

21. July 2008 at 15:04

The Nokia MD-6 is a portable speaker for your mobile phone but also for your MP3 player or Laptop. Thanks to Hot-Wire-Telekom I could put my hands on it and putt it through its paces:

Sales Package:

The MD-6 comes in a grey, small and thin package with following slogan on it: ” My music, everywhere, with me”. I’ll come back to this slogan later on.

The backside features a little information text about the gadget in 14 different languages. There are also some trademarks and two pictures of the speaker.

This is the English information text:

Enjoy big stereo sound in a pocket size anywhere, anytime. The speakers are powered by 4AAA batteries. Your product may contain small parts, Keep them out of the reach of small children.

The package contains:

  • Nokia Mini Speakers (MD-6)
  • Nokia Audio Adapter (AD-63)
  • Nokia Audio Adapter (AD-52)
  • Nokia Carrying Pouch
  • 4 AAA batteries
  • User guide

The MD-6 is a speaker with a candybar format. The two speakers are hidden and are hold together by magnets. This is a really cool features since these are portable speakers which need to be resistance against scratches, dust and so on. Once you opened the speakers you can see a little LED lighting up in a white colour . This LED reminds you that the speaker is on and is ready for using.

The speakers doesn’t look really nobly nor cheap. It is made completely out of glossy plastic or at both ends matte which looks due to the black-red colour really stylish and modern. The cable is approximately 73cm long and can be stretched out of its cradle when needed what is really convenient and handy. It has a 3.5mm plug which is perfect for the N95, N82, Mp3 players or laptops. More over you can find two Audio Adapter for 2.5mm audiojack ( E66, E90, E77).

I’ve been testing these speakers with the Nokia E71 and the N95 and the sound quality really blew me away. Compared to the mono speaker of the E71 or the stereo speakers of the N95 the MD-6 is much better. It’s louder, clear… simply better. However, some tested rock songs even sound horrible with the speakers and other songs sounds sometimes really hollow. Anyway, all in all the sound quality is really good. Here a video demonstrating you the MD-6:

Batter Life:

Actually I can not say anything about the battery life since the battery didn’t died during my test. However, it depends on the quality of the battery and on the volume.

In the test I had sometimes problems with the battery connection so that the MD-6 sometimes didn’t worked. However, now, after spening some time with it, everything fits and works great. Either than that I like the fact that the MD-6 is powered by AAA batteries. These are everywhere available and some can be recharged. This may be important when you’re at a place without power point.

Indeed, using the MD-6 you have music with good audio quality everywhere. The speaker is well build and really handy. Jump over to buy the Nokia MD-6.
